Mary Allen

Dennise Hill

Beahive Housing Board Member

After graduating from Harrisburg High School and Harrisburg Area Community College, Mary worked for the Harrisburg Housing Authority and the City of Harrisburg’s Law Bureau. In 1990, she moved to Northern Virginia and began a 10-year career with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) who helped fund the launch of DIRECTV’s satellite.

She rose in the NRTC ranks to become Customer Service Manager of the membership group that provided satellite TV programming to rural America. Mary transitioned to Bell Atlantic – now called Verizon -- in the same capacity as they rolled out DIRECTV to their subscribers. She was awarded the Presidential Award for her dedication and commitment to service. Her interest in telecommunications led to working with VeriSign.

and nexVortex, who provided SIP Trunking telephony and Voice over IP (VoIP) to small and medium sized businesses. In her role she provided top customer service, technical and billing support to their customer base. After 25 years of living and working in Northern Virginia, in 2015, Mary and her husband Galen decided the next phase of life would be in service and working with our youth. Both packed up and returned to the Harrisburg area, to become Houseparents at the Milton Hershey School, supporting up to 12 middle school students; a position they held for over 6 years before leaving to pursue other interests.
